Like a beacon of hope and life the Fundamental Baptist Mission of Trinidad, Tobago and the West Indies stands, shining forth the light of the everlasting Gospel of Jesus Christ into the sin darkened world of the Caribbean. It is a much needed light that has faithfully stood for many years, and a light whose beam now seeks to penetrate into even the most remote regions of the islands. It is a mission with historic roots based in Trinidad that desires to expand it’s outreach into other Caribbean nations.
The light of FBMTT first began to shine in 1912 when the Fundamental Baptist Mission, the first independent Baptist mission on the island, was founded by Rev. James Vincent Quamina in the country of Trinidad. Led by the Lord he gave up his principal’s job to start a mission work among his own people.
Several years later Rev. Quamina came to the United States and presented the needs of the mission to a gathering of fundamental Baptist pastors. Heeding the Lord’s leading, these men organized the United States Board of the Fundamental Baptist Mission of Trinidad, Tobago and the West Indies in 1921 to extend vital financial, spiritual and other assistance to this work to further the Gospel of Christ in Trinidad and Tobago.
From 1921 until the present these two boards have shared a unique working relationship with one another in seeking to reach Trinidad and Tobago with Gospel of Jesus Christ through the planting of New Testament Baptist Churches. It is a partnership based on the principle of U. S. churches assisting nationals to reach their own country for Christ. Our board in the U.S.A. assists the Trinidad board with advice, training, finances, supplies, and missionaries to help them reach their own country for Christ. In addition we encourage and assist churches here in the U. S. to send outreach teams of youth and adults to help spread the Gospel in Trinidad and to carry out construction projects for the mission churches there.
As a mission FBMTT has always had the goal of reaching beyond Trinidad and Tobago to the rest of the Caribbean. As God leads we hope to expand FBMTT’s outreach into more Caribbean nations, through helping nationals and recruiting and sending U.S. missionaries. |
